Home Energy Rebate Program

When it comes to upgrades for your home, consider not only the financial benefit of low energy expenditure, but also understand there are considerable tax credits for you to take advantage of.  Alaska Housing Finance Corporation and the federal government offer tax credits. Outlined below is a summary of what you may qualify for as well as websites and information for further details and terms.

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Home Energy Rebate Program

The Program for existing homes will refund up to $10,000 to a homeowner who improves the energy efficiency of his or her owner occupied residence. To enter the rebate program there is a 6 step process outlined in detail on the website listed below.

1. Request a home energy rating. http://www.akrebate.com or call 1-877-AK-REBATE.

2. Get the first rating, also called an As-Is rating. Rater fees vary, so ask for their rate.

3. Get the As-Is form from your energy rater or download it on the website, then send it in. You will be entered into the program and reimbursed up to $325 for the rating.

4. Complete any/all energy-efficiency improvements listed in your energy rating.

5. Get a post energy rating, after desired improvements are completed.

6. Fill out and send in the final rebate paperwork. You will be reimbursed up to $175 for the post rating and receive a rebate based on your home’s improved energy-efficiency and your eligible receipts.

Federal Government Tax Credits

This program gives a credit for 30% of the upgrade cost up to $1500. For further information visit http://www.energystar.gov.
