Letter from the Heart – August 2011
It has come to the age where I am beginning to see more and more of my acquaintances retiring, or at least not working full time. Quite a few are leaving the state to be closer to family. Some are going to Indiana to be farmers, some are off to Mississippi to grow trees, some to California to watch the sun set.
While I am always happy to help them with their homes, I wonder if Dave and I would be moving south when the time comes for Dave to retire (I can’t spell the word). We decided to give a good look at Utah which is where my family is from. We enjoy the area and seeing family. But we don’t want to go there permanently: We love it here! We never want to leave Alaska behind as it would be like leaving a part of us, and that just wouldn’t do.
Strangely enough, our dreams…are just what we are doing now. We enjoy what we do, and so to retire to what isn’t the question as much as retire from what? Wherever you end up at this juncture in your life I hope the move, should there be one, is a happy event for all concerned. It’s worth thinking about now even if it’s 10 or 20 years out. It does tend to sneak up on you.
Just a few numbers to leave you with this month. As of today (July 26th) there are 1121 active residential s listing on the market with 427 pending sales. The average number of days on the market is 95 with the average list price or $338,410. The average sale price for these properties was $323,762.
